Sources used:

For most of my books I used my library (Erina) , Terrigal Primary School library and knowledge of books I had already read to children.
Online sources included Novelist, FictionConnection, Good Reads and Amazon.

Search terms used:

'Rhyming picture books'
'stories in verse'
'juvenile fiction'
'rhyme and repetition'
'dr. seuss'
Using source databases such as Novelist and FictionConnection I was able to browse author read a-likes in order to find suitable books.

Relevance of items:
The items included in this bibliography needed to have rhyme, rhythm, illustrations and a certain quirkiness to them. The selection criterium made is sometimes difficult to select the right book, as it is hard to choose a book based on a brief synopsis provided by most sources. Many of the books I had to actually read in order to find out if they had the right type of rhyme, rhythm and language appropriate for my target audience. The books chosen on this blog all managed to fulfil the selection criteria, and appeal to both a male and female audience ranging from ages 3-6.

There were several items that I had to exclude either because I couldn't read enough of the text to find out if they were suitable or they simply didn't suit the target group (3-6 years) and didn't fit my criteria of being rhyming, repetitive and funny! There were a lot of rhyming counting books, but they were not part of my selection criteria.
A book that I didn't include was When the Elephant walks, by Keiko Kasza. This book was very cute, and had rhyme, however after reading through it I decided it was a bit too babyish for most of my target audience of kids aged between 3-7.
